Workshops

Visual Arts Program

In the current school year, the visual arts workshops explore the theme of “A Sense of Place: How our environment makes us who we are". Whether landscape or seascape, rural or urban, the Canadian environment is diverse and inspires artists in many different ways.

Painting Workshops
In this workshop, students are introduced to the drawings and paintings of E.J Hughes, Maud Lewis and George Littlechild. Examining their distinct style and connection to the place in which they live in Canada and learning about their lives helps us to understand who they are and how they fit into their environment. Students will examine their personal connections to the place in which they live and will create paintings based on their own stories, depicting their own Sense of Place.

Printmaking Workshops
Students will examine Inuit prints and discuss the artists’ personal connections to the places in which they live. Then, the students learn the basic steps of printmaking and then use their newfound printmaking skills to develop a plate that expresses their own Sense of Place.

After-School Theatre Program

Over the course of six weeks, students develop and hone theatre performance skills. They will be entrusted with group projects, learn decision-making, and build confidence. At the end of the program, the students present a showcase of their best/ favourite work over the six weeks to an invited audience of peers, teachers and parents.

Through these workshops, students will: participate in cooperative theatre games and exercises; build skills and confidence in self-expression, movement, characterization, improvisation and dramatic play; and, learn about positive team building and the importance of respect for others.
